This is an online Spanish as a second language course designed for English speaking educators. This course will help teachers, counselors, administrators, and other school employees communicate with students who have Spanish as their first language and speak little or no English.
This course introduces the fundamentals of Spanish conversational speech and word order. Next it familiarizes the educator with often-used phrases that relate to everyday school situations. The lessons emphasize Spanish words and phrases that are most useful for dealing with students. This course is designed for educators who have no Spanish but need to pick up Spanish communication skills in a hurry. This course offers an ideal way to start learning and understanding Spanish.
Educators will:
Learn more than 3,000 key words, phrases and questions for any K-12, college or adult education situation,
Review, create and design bilingual forms and letters for parents and the education environment,
Develop vocabulary skills related to the school building, rooms, staff, and supplies,
Understand a Spanish school calendar, months, dates, holidays, days of the week, time and weather,
Learn and use Spanish curriculum words for algebra, arithmetic, art, astronomy, biology, calculus, chemistry, computer science, dance, economics, English, geography, history, literature, mathematics, music, physical education, physics, science, social studies, theater and trigonometry,
Establish a success in school bilingual plan by enlisting Spanish speaking parents,
Familiarize with Spanish terms for health, medical problems and emergencies,
Additionally, educators will participate in beginning to intermediate-level conversational skits in which they will spell and write accurately and speak without a script.
